Before & After: Mounted Coat Rack
Before: A pile of odds & ends, and a reclaimed wood panel board, all from Builders REsource. Chris & I looked for pieces that would work like hooks. We ended up with a couple of door knobs, a hot water knob, two door stoppers and one actual hook. I wanted to use door knobs because I have a tendency to just hang things on working door knobs around the apartment. I know I'm not the only who does this too.

After: Eclectic Wall Mounted Coat Rack!

We did not to paint over the wood panel because we really love the overall distressed look of it and felt that it has a lot of character. It fits right in the style of our apartment.

This is probably my favorite "hook" on the rack (it was Chris's idea too.) It's the only piece made of porcelain and that is white; it stands out, yet fits right in.

Now our helmets, umbrellas and scarves have a new home! They're no longer cluttering our floor or misplaced in another room. They're conveniently hanging right by the front door for easy access, woohoo!
On a related note, I have to thank Roberts Hardware in the Haight. The folks here are always incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and most importantly approachable. They helped me find the right screws for each piece and gave great advice on how to execute this project (and on other ones too.) It's so awesome to have a local hardware store that you can go to for questions on diy projects!

Web Page Design Update
The site is back up for a webpage I designed last semester. I'm guessing the school shuts the server off during the summer since I was unable to access it at all then. But it's up now and if you want to check it out just click the image below. Enjoy!

Adventures with Mike: San Bruno
Last year my friend Mike took me on a little walking adventure in San Bruno, CA, a little city just a few BART stops away from SF. I've been living in the Bay Area for 5 years now, but had never step foot in San Bruno, nor ever thought about going there until Mike suggested it one day. Here are some photos from our sunny afternoon exploring San Bruno by foot:

Mike, an explorer of sorts.

A walk through a little quaint neighborhood.

Transmitting waves.

Awesome vintage architecture from the 50/60's.

Mid-century style signage and typography.

We came across a party supply shop and bought these silly "nerd"glasses.

More great vintage signage and typography. You might have notice from previous posts, that I'm a fan of vintage type.

Mike and his balancing act.

Before & Afters
Little things I've done around my apartment.
Before: A footstool Chris & I never finished.

We made this out of a set of scrap furniture legs we found at Urban Ore, wood from an old bed frame, batting and of course fabric. I think we never finished it because of the fabric. It turned out to be pretty dull looking.
After:

It's amazing how the right fabric can make a huge difference. Although the finished foot stool is cute, it's a bit small for my taste and I think I could work on the upholstering a bit. At least now I have an idea on what to do next time...
Before: Unsightly storage.

After: A vibrant pop of color and hidden storage!

A pretty simple project and solution.

Crafty Kim!
A while ago, Kim came over for some craft time goodness. While I was sewing a simple curtain, she was busy making this awesome wallet made with denim (from an old pair of jeans), a beautiful patterned fabric and a button that I donated, from scratch! No pattern or instructions necessary!

Check out her blog for the finished wallet and all her other projects: http://kimberlylauren.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/wallets/
